			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Despite the fact that home prices in Houston held steady for 2009, there are certainly pockets of areas where the prices were forced down because of foreclosures.  In some cases, this was substantial.</p>
<p>New home subdivisions have a greater risk as a whole for feeling the price pressure from foreclosures for two reasons.  First, home builders often slash prices of homes in adjacent subdivisions when the market slows, which brings down values in surrounding areas.  And second, the lack of competition in many outlying areas serves to increase the inventory of available homes in those areas, which creates downward pressure on prices.</p>
